Today we have a small piece of happy news about Setagaya Kaigo's stretch pajamas.

The top and the trousers of our stretch pajamas can now each be chosen on their own.

  • Buy just the top, or just the trousers
  • Combine different sizes, such as a size M top with size L trousers

Of course, you can still choose them as a matching set, just as before.

It started with a customer's comment

  • If only one half wears out, I could keep using the other half for longer if I could replace just that one

This is something a customer once told us.

At our Sangenjaya store, too, some customers regularly buy soft trousers that they can wear as pajama bottoms.

So we wondered whether we could offer the stretch pajama trousers on their own.

Using the pajamas we have now, without waiting for the next production run

Normally, we would need to ask for extra trousers in the next production run. But that would mean more than six months before we could deliver them.

Is there something we can do with the pajamas we have now?

With that in mind, we decided to split the matching sets we have and deliver the tops and trousers separately.

Because the pajamas were designed to be sold as sets, only the tops had a care label. So a member of our development team who is skilled in dressmaking sews a care label onto each pair of trousers by hand.

It adds a little handwork, but we found a way to answer customers' wishes without waiting for the next production run.

An order for “a size M top and size L trousers” made us stop and think

Once we started, we received orders we hadn't imagined.

A size M top and size L trousers.

Some customers chose different sizes for the top and the bottom.

With everyday clothes, choosing different sizes for tops and trousers is perfectly natural. We often suggest it ourselves.

So why had we never thought of it for pajamas? It was a real eye-opener.

Another customer chose two tops in different colours.

Points for choosing different sizes for top and bottom

Choosing different sizes for the top and trousers makes it easier to fit each part of the body. For example:

  • Slim around the shoulders and chest, but wanting more room around the tummy and hips
  • The trousers have started to feel tight since starting to use incontinence pants
  • Wanting a top whose sleeves and length aren't too long

We recommend checking the chest, shoulders and sleeve length for the top, and the waist, hips and inseam for the trousers, each on the size chart.

Stretch pajamas

Points to check before choosing a pajama top or trousers

  • Which has worn out, the top or the trousers (is one enough?)
  • Chest, shoulders and sleeve length for the top
  • Waist, hips and inseam for the trousers
  • Whether incontinence pants are worn
  • Whether a dryer is used at the facility

If you're unsure which size to choose for each, send us their height and weight, the size of the pajamas they wear now and anything that bothers you, on LINE.

We keep learning from our customers

We began selling the pieces separately so that customers could replace just the half that had worn out.

But the way customers chose taught us that being able to change sizes between top and bottom, or to combine favourite colours, also matters.

Helping clothes that can still be worn to be worn for longer. Letting each person choose freely, to suit their body and taste.

Both are things we want to keep valuing.

Listening to customers, making, having our clothes used, and reviewing them again. We hope to keep repeating this cycle and help make every day more comfortable.

If you notice anything about our clothing, or have an idea like “it would be nice if there were…”, please feel free to tell us on LINE or through our contact page.
